Welcome in 2024!

We are excited to welcome our students back tomorrow! We hope you all enjoyed your time away with family and friends. As we begin this new calendar year, we look forward to all the fun and learning planned for the remainder of the year. The end of the 2nd trimester is March 1st.  Your child should continue reading nightly as part of their homework.  Like any other skill, reading proficiency comes from practice and encouragement.  Thank you for encouraging your child to read nightly!  Please make sure to read our blog each week so that you are up-to-date on what's going on in our classroom.

New Year! New Goals!

We are so excited to be starting 2024 with your child! This week we will be talking about some goals for this new year. Chat with your child about some academic goals, and some at home goals that they may have for this year! We will be choosing one word as a focus for the year ahead. This word will help each child focus on the kind of person they want to be and apply it to every part of their life. For example, my word this year is "FOCUS." I will focus on reading, on sports and on people when they are talking to me. Please talk to your child about a word that would be beneficial for them.

Mid-Year NWEA Testing

Our students will be taking the mid-year NWEA reading and math tests this week and next week. These are the same tests given in the fall and spring and are used as a measure to check growth. There is no need to prepare at home other than to discuss the importance of good test taking skills: taking your time, doing your best, staying focused, eating a good breakfast, drinking water, etc.

Dates:

Tuesday, Jan.9th and Thursday, Jan. 11th from 11:05-11:45

Tuesday, Jan.16th and Wednesday, Jan.17th from 11:05-11:45

Math Update - Unit 4

Relating Multiplication to Division

In this next unit, students make sense of division and learn to multiply and divide whole numbers within 100. They also use the four operations to represent and solve two-step word problems. Students work toward these end-of-year goals?
  • fluently multiply and divide within 100
  • know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers
There are four sections in this unit. To learn more about what we will cover in each section, click here.

Mystery Readers

Have you been a Mystery Reader in your child's classroom yet this year? Have you already signed up for a date? If not, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher for more information and available dates. Mystery Readers typically come to read to our class in the afternoons. Our students really look forward to this special time and can't wait to see who the mystery reader might be. Many dates are open, so please consider signing up.
