Multiplication Fact Fluency

Research has shown that a strong number sense, including fluency of basic math facts, is essential for a student to have success in mathematics. A strong foundation of math fact fluency leads to an easier ability to master future math concepts such as multi-digit multiplication and division.
As a third grader, your child will be working toward mastering their multiplication facts through 100 this year. The standard, "From memory, solves multiplication facts within 100 (3.OA.7)," will be reported on all year starting this first trimester so you will see this on your child's report card in November. Please note that it is not expected that all the multiplication facts through 100 be mastered by the end of the first trimester, but it is important the we begin the process. It will take time and repeated practice to accomplish this very important goal. We are excited to start using our new individual flash cards this week (paid for by the St. Joseph Foundation).
Students have been learning what multiplication means and we are working to understand the concept and are now beginning to practice fluency through the use of games and flash cards. We highly recommend getting a set of multiplication/division flash cards for home so your child can practice those facts regularly. If you have questions or need some help with getting some flash cards for home, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Halloween Party

Our parties will all take place on Tuesday, October 31st at 1:30. If you signed up to help with the party, your 3rd grade teacher will be sending you more detailed information. As you begin planning your child's costume, keep in mind a few things:

All kids are welcome to wear costumes all day.  Parents should use good judgement on costumes, please leave the bulkier pieces of costumes at home. No weapons or look alike weapons should come to school.

Nutcracker

Ms. Mileham sent a note home on Friday regarding the upcoming Nutcracker performance.

Here is a link to the letter if you did not receive it from your child: Nutcracker Parent Letter.
