Back to School Night

Thank you to those of you that were able to make it to Back to School night. If you were not able to make it, we are sorry we missed you. We have sent home the handouts from the evening:

* How to support your child at Home (green paper)

* A note explaining our new foundational reading instruction program, EBLI, that we are piloting in our classrooms (purple paper)

*A Field Trip permission note (white paper)

Please complete the Field Trip form and return it to school with your child as soon as possible.

In addition, please click below to view the slides that were shared with all 3rd grade parents.  Please reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions regarding any of the information presented in the slides.

How is EBLI Different from Traditional Instruction

EBLI stands for Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction and is a system of strategies in our reading and spelling instruction. EBLI is different in that we teach students to access the sounds in words when reading and spelling rather than letter names. We teach patterns of the English language rather than rules. The following blog post will provide you with additional information to help you understand the difference between EBLI and traditional phonics instruction.

Homework

Our biggest goal with homework is for students to read each night for a total of 100 minutes each week. Homework sheets are due every Monday morning, signed by a parent. Students will be graphing the minutes they read each week to see their progress over time. Please let us know if you have any questions.

If your child every forgets his/her homework sheet, we will keep this blank one linked to our blog each week for you to make a copy.

Snacks/Water Bottles

Just a reminder...please send a healthy snack for your child, as well as a water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day. Thank you!
